"You Cannot
Not Communicate".
Did you know that it is impossible to not communicate?
It's true. If you refrain from speaking, you communicate. If you decide
not to attend a meeting, you are communicating. If you are late for a
meeting, you are communicating. This presents you with decisions. At any
time, what is it that you wish to communicate? If you do not clearly take
charge of what, when and how you communicate, you could be misunderstood
or misinterpreted. You leave yourself completely open to the assumptions
of others.
Trust, of course, plays a large part in the communication
equation. If you work or live with people who understand your motives,
know that you are responsible and feel comfortable with you as a colleague
or team member, the assumptions about you will be positive. If those same
people are insecure within themselves, or about you, they may make assumptions
that serve their own best interests.
